For Mom on Mother’s Day: One of Her Favorite Cajun Songs

I hope all you moms in the Chattahoochee Valley have a really Happy Mother’s Day.  You deserve it.  You all do so much for your families each day.  I hope you don’t mind me dedicating a Cajun song to my own Mom.  In her last years, it was one of her favorite songs.

Some of you may like it despite it being in another language.  Below the video, you’ll find the lyrics in French followed by a loose translation to English.  French majors, don’t scold me.  Our Cajun ancestors passed the language down by word of mouth, so most of us don’t speak, read or write French correctly.  Then again, many Americans who judge people by the way they speak English, aren’t thrilled with the way I speak their language either.

French

Tous les ans y a une journée
Qui s’appelle “Mother’s Day”

Mes chers ‘tits enfants
Comment ça profite
Et ça c’est mignons.
Mam j’brailler tout la journée
Parce que c’est mo cassé
Dans mon cœur tous les jours
C’est le Mother’s Day

English

Every year there is one day
which is called “Mother’ s Day”
One day to thank all the mothers
For all they’ve done
My Mother, one day per year
is not enough
In my heart every day
is Mother’ s day.

Mom you are in heaven,
I believe that you know
how I appreciate
all that you’ve done.
Mom one day a year
for you is not enough.
In my heart every day is
Mother’ s day.

Mom I wish you could see
My dear li’l children
How they’ve grown
and how cute they are.
Mom I cry all the day
Because I’m so broken
In my heart every day
is Mother’ s day.
